Laura Thompson, flutist & educator

Laura Thompson is is highly regarded as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player, and educator. A versatile musician, Laura plays both modern and historical flutes and has appeared with many ensembles including the American Classical Orchestra, the New York Collegium, the Grand Tour Orchestra, and  the New York Continuo Collective. Laura has also appeared with numerous opera companies including Teatro Lirico D’Europa, Mid-Atlantic Opera, Green Mountain Opera Festival, and Lyric Opera of New York. She currently teaches at the Westport School of Music, in Westport, CT, and is past faculty at Brooklyn College, CUNY, and the JCC in Tenafly, NJ and in Riverdale, NY. Laura recently received her masters in Music Therapy from SUNY New Paltz and is currently studying for her MT-BC board certification.  

Laura grew up in New York City and started out playing recorder and piano as a youngster, switching to the French horn in middle school. She fell in love with the flute in high school and went on to study music at Queens College, CUNY, where she received her Bachelor and Master of Music in Performance. Laura has played with many orchestras and ensembles over the years, and teaches flutists of all ages, from early childhood through college. She is certified in the Suzuki Flute teaching method, and is most happy in her music studio, where she enjoys offering people the chance to develop their musicality while having fun and making music together.
